Recreational Squad

Development Squad: ( Max 3 sessions per week)

This squad is advised to attend 2-3 sessions per week and is a transitional level from Learn to Swim to squads. This session is open to competitive and non-competitive swimmers. Swimmers in this squad have a strong focus on technique and aerobic fitness capacity. Swimmers looking to progress into the Fitness squad must be proficient in all 4 strokes and meet set standard times. Movement into the next squad is worked on a trial basis and swimmers must attend sessions directed by the coaching team.

Swimmers once in the squad will need to develop a comprehensive level of understanding in:

  • Stroke technique in 4 strokes & s’lining
  • Drill progressions 4 strokes
  • IM swimming
  • All turns & IM
  • Starts 4 strokes
  • Correct finishes
  • Pace clock work
  • Lane discipline
  • Rules of sport
  • Punctual start times for all sessions
  • Stretching exercises
  • Training equipment-Fins, board, pull buoy, paddles, drink bottle

Fitness Squad:

This squad is advised to attend 3-4 sessions per week. This session is open to competitive and non-competitive swimmers. Swimmers in this squad have a strong focus on technique and aerobic fitness capacity. Swimmers looking to progress into the Bronze squad must regularly attend club night as well as compete in 4 individual events at the SMSW C’ships and inter-club swim meets.

Swimmers once in the squad will have a comprehensive level of understanding in:

Times standard for Fitness squad include:

400Fs <8:00

4x100Fs<2.00

4x100IM<2.30

6x50Fs<60

Bronze Teen Gym /Swim Squad:

This squad is for Bronze swimmers 14yrs+. This squad is designed for swimmers wishing to remain part of the squad program however do not have intentions on competing in individual Metropolitan or State Championships. Swimmers at this level are not required to remain members of the swimming club and compete at MSW Championships. This squad is restricted to 5 water sessions a week as well as a maximum of 5 Gym passes per week. Swimmers are not permitted to attend the gym during Silver/Gold group gym sessions.
