Swimmer and Parent Code of Conduct and Behaviour

Swimmers

  • Arrive for training 10 minutes prior to start time (unless prior arranged with the coach).
  • All swimmers must meet the criteria of the level of squad they are placed in. Failure to adhere will result in reassessment into a lower squad.
  • All squad swimmers are required to provide their own equipment including a drink bottle to every training session.
  • Swimmers that have extended periods of time away from training may be reassessed into a lower squad until fitness is attained to the same level prior to leave.

Lap etiquette

  • Always swim to the left hand side of the lane.
  • Leave at 5 second intervals or when advised by the coach.
  • Please overtake to the right-hand side of the person in front.
  • Always complete every lap by finishing on the wall.
  • Obey Centre Conditions of Entry.
  • Please adhere to any instructions provided by the coach as well as pool staff.
  • Respect other swimmers, parents, patrons and users of the pool.
  • Inappropriate language or gossiping of any kind will not be tolerated.
  • Any misconduct or disruptive behaviour when visiting centre will not be tolerated and can result in an official warning.
  • Repeat misconduct or disruptive behaviour may result in removal from the program and/or banning from facility.
  • The coach reserves the right to remove any swimmer from the squad session for misbehaviour or misconduct.
  • Swimmers are to show the same level of respect and commitment to dry land sessions and the staff delivering this program. Misconduct may result in permanent removal from this program.
  • If you notice, witness or are subjected to an action that makes you or someone else feel uncomfortable you are to report it to the coach or centre representative.

PARENTS

  • Parents of swimmers under the age of 12 years must remain within the facility at all times, including during training and afterwards in change rooms, as consistent with Centre Supervision Policy and Conditions of Entry.
  • Parents are advised not to be on pool deck during training or interfere with the training session in any way.
  • Please leave the coaching to our staff, if you have any concerns please see the coach after the session or arrange a suitable time outside training hours.
  • Parents that interfere with coaching may be asked to leave.
  • Coaches have the final say on how swimmers are trained.
  • Please adhere to any instructions provided by the coach as well as pool staff.
  • Respect other swimmers, parents, patrons and users of the pool.
  • Harassment of other swimmers and/or parents and/or pool staff will not be tolerated and could result in you being asked to leave the facility.
  • Inappropriate language or gossiping of any kind will not be tolerated.
  • If a swimmer has been absent due to injury i.e. broken leg or major illness, a doctor’s clearance will be required before resuming in the squad program.
  • If a swimmer under the age of 18 is required to leave the training session early a written and signed note by the parent/guardian must be presented to the coach before the commencement of the training session starting the time the swimmer is required to exit the water as well as the location from where the swimmer will be picked up.

Failure to comply with these rules may result in cancellation of Squad Membership.

Watching children during training Ripples Leisure Centre recommends the following:

  • Children U/12: Swimmers under the age of 12 years must be accompanied by a parent /guardian (over 18 years) at all times within the facility, including during training and afterwards in change rooms, as consistent with Centre Supervision Policy and Conditions of Entry.
  • Children 12-16: Parents may leave their child at the centre for squad training however ensure they return prior to the end of the session or have a designated adult (over 18 years) present in the centre to take them from training prior to the session ending.
  • Children 17+: At swimmers at this age are able to drive themselves to and from the pool parents are not required to pick up their children after training.

NOTE: It is strongly reminded that squads are not a child-minding service. Swimmers who are not picked up after training may have their membership in the squad cancelled.

Communication:

Parents may contact the centre during business hours for any enquiries. The Coaching staff are not to be approached during training times. If you wish to speak with a swimmer’s coach you may approach them before or after training times or a mutually suitable time.

Alternatively, you can email the coach or leave a message at the centre for them to return your call. Coaches will not reply or communicate through personal phone numbers or social media. Emergency information regarding squads will be sent via email, text and posted as a notification on Team App.

General news and information regarding squads will be made available in the squads monthly newsletter which is posted in the Ripples Swimming Club website and onto Team App.

During each swimming season, swimmers in the representative strands are encouraged to meet with their coach to review their progress, establish goals for the coming season, identify areas of focus and discuss meets/events to enter. Parents are also able to make an appointment with coaches to discuss their child’s progress.

Swimmers in the Development strand are also encouraged to make appointments with their coach to discuss goals and progress.
