Making Waves – Swimwear Recycling at Ripples Penrith and St Marys

In partnership with Textile Recyclers Australia, during the month of January, our swimming pool in Penrith and St Marys will be accepting old or unwanted swimwear for recycling.

Please place items loose (no plastic bags) in the signposted textile recycling bin on site and ensure swimwear is clean and dry before dropping-off.

Accepted items include:

✔️ bikini tops and bottoms
✔️ speedos
✔️ one-piece swimsuits
✔️ board shorts
✔️ rash vests
✔️ and other swimming costumes

Goggles, flippers, swimming caps, disposable swim nappies and other non-swimwear items are not accepted.

Swimwear dropped-off will be taken to Textile Recyclers Australia (based right here in Penrith!) where it will be cleaned and sorted by material composition and colour before being shredded down to textile fibres.

These fibres are repurposed in a range of recycling projects including

  • Spun into recycled yarn
  • Used in furniture filler
  • Used in building and renovation materials e.g. green ceramics (tiles for kitchen benches, tabletops and flooring)
  • And much more
